About

Follow along with cookthebook.ca founder Jen Watkiss’s  attempts at cooking every recipe in the Menus from an Orchard Table book by Heidi Noble. It’s part of the Cook the Book collection of blogs. In addition to commentary and photos of all the recipes, Jen will share the results of scaling some of these often large recipes to dishes that work for couples or smaller groups.

From the publisher:

Fresh from the Okanagan valley comes Menus from an Orchard Table , a collection of recipes from four seasons of Joie’s renowned Outdoor Orchard Dinners and Cooking School menus. Joie’s classes  were sell-outs and people came from far and wide to sit at a table in the orchard. The menus and essays in the book reveal the “birth” of this new wine country cuisine in the Okanagan and allow the reader to recreate some of the flavors of this emerging wine country.

With a literal lay of the land, Heidi introduces local producers and showcases their products in her menus. The recipes are divided into the courses of Joie’s typical orchard dinners and aim to reveal the harmony between the regional wines and the dishes created for them.

Menus from an Orchard Table will transport readers to the former site of Joie’s magical outdoor dining table set under the stars, amongst the trees.

Put up your feet and dream you’re under a summer sunset as Jen recreates some of the delicious recipes Heidi Noble made in her first few years on the Joie farm. Jen’s certainly trying to transport herself to the country every time she makes one of these!

This blog outlines one amateur chef’s attempts and experiences working through the book without publishing full ingredient lists or instructions. The hopes are that if you like what you see and want to try the recipes yourself, you’ll go acquire the book from an approved seller, and support the talented chef and publisher who put it together.
